Expired domain names

I know that some people are keen to 'catch' expired domain names but have been having problems.  I thought this article might be helpful?

Best regards to all.

To be specific, if whois returns this phrase-that-pays, then the domain is about to be dropped:

Local whois DB must be out of date.

The six days limit doesn't seem to hold up.

My guess is that the author of this article recorded what happenned to him and it was just coincidence his domain was freed on the 6th day... maybe the whole thing could be a coincidence. A certain domain I'm following should have been freed 6:30AM this morning but no dice.

Okay, I found the following to check on constantly:
-mag.com ($$$ signs flash in my eyes)
-i-filezone.com
-ifilezone.com
-internetfilezone.com

Mag.com - Showed the error message until right about now. Some one else nabbed it yesterday but I'm wondering how since the WhoIs at NetSol, FQ, & Corenic all showed the same thing until now.

-I-FileZone.com & IFilezone.com (stupid names I know) were nabbed up yesterday also.

-I nabbed internetfilezone.com but it will most likely just be deleted or allowed to expire.

One incredulous and not-worthwhile victory for me, and 3 for the other guy (one of which is incredibly shweeet). I'm not glum about not being able to sell mag.com for tens of thousands of dollars (which would have been guilt-free since the domain was abandoned years ago) since the only thing I can tell all of you is patience and diligence are the only things that will finally pay off in domain waiting.

Well... all's well that ends well. At least I have some fishing-story-like tales to tell...

Tatu

Did all of you know I followed Women.com (a site with women's articles and cooking and fashion for women)? They went past their expiration date by over a month and then paid NetSol up!!!

How do you find the soon to be dropped names?  Do you just enter a name into the whois search, or is there a better way?

Tatuuuuuuuuuu: (and other domain 'watchers')

Sorry, just had to do that.

If you are watching the whois to determine when a domain is available, then you will probably always be a few days too late, since many whois databases (particularly NSI's) are usually delayed by a few days in updating.

The ONLY way to continually monitor a domain is at a domain registration site where the domain name is looked up in the main registry instantly. There are probably some domain registrars that will 'watch' one for you for the price of registration + a fee.

I do the latter, believe it or not. I think I've just been lucky (I haven't looked at large amounts of domain names, pretty much just what has hit me to try). There are a few companies who will sell you expired or soon-to-be expired domain name lists, but the same information is shared with thousands of others and the [however unethical] company most likely keeps domain names they want under wraps... especially if their system & lists actually work.

Rich: Keep talkin' Keep talkin'... I knew I did (or actually didn't) do something because of my conclusion. I guess I live and learn, eh?

And I would find my magical domain registration site where? I feel like I've searched for hours...

I myself wouldn't mind paying hundreds if it gets me exactly that domain name... any companies in mind?

Maybe Dotster can help: http://www.dotster.com/programs/domain_monitoring/

Price is $5.00 per year per domain

Didn't use it myself, but might help.

Re: Expired domain names

One way other than checking WHOIS is you can backorder the domain where they will do all the lookup for you once the domain is available they will intimate you.. If you wish check at TuckTail.comyou have to pay few dollars for this service and you will get a full refund if your not successful... gud luck..
