Is my counter counting?

Quote:
I installed the counter from http://www.futurequest.net/CNC/COUNT.shtml and it is showing on my page but it's not counting. Why not?!?!
The counter program stores a record of the last IP address that viewed the page. It never counts the same IP address two times in a row. For the sake of simplicity let's think of the IP address as a name rather then a number:

Sally visits the page -- the counter adds 1
John visits the page -- the counter adds 1
John re-visits the page -- the counter adds none
John re-loads the page -- the counter adds none
Sally re-loads the page -- the counter adds 1
John re-loads the page -- the counter adds 1.

If you are trying to make your counter count by reloading your page without any other connection loading it since the last time you did it will not work. To find out if your counter really is working have a friend load your page from their computer, then you reload it, then have your friend reload, so on and so forth.

99% of the "My counter is broke" emails that come into Support@ are solved as soon as they realize this feature

I figured as much.

Not that it matters in the Great Scheme of Things, but multiple users from a network won't trigger it either, right. My company has a shared access via a proxy server [WinProxy] our Novell network, for example.

IOW,
Bill from ABC corp visits - counter adds 1
Sally from ABC corp visits - counter adds none.

Right?

That's correct... as it's storing the last IP to hit the page....

For true statistics it's best to use your stats

I'm glad I found this thread before I posted my "Counter Doesn't Count" question.  Goes to show the power of Searching first.
