The UBB search is buggy...

Just thought I'd mention that the search script used in the current UBB (on the FQ site) seems to have a flaw. If the number of hits is greater than one page's worth (30 hits, I think) then you can't access hits 31 and above. When you hit the "Next Matches" link you get the "0 Results Found" message. This bug is probably not worth fixing as it'll probably be done in one of the following UBB releases, but I thought I'd mention it since I noticed it...

I went over to ScriptKeeper.com to check if this "Next Matches" problem was known there. It is. So it's really up to Ted to fix, although I didn't notice that anyone had suggested he WOULD be fixing it soon.

What word did you search for? I tried 'and', got 500 matches, and went a page or two in with no problems whatsoever...

you did say the FQ UBB, meaning this one we are currently posting.. correct? (dumb question) Well, I did a search on a word, it would only show 30 at a time, and when I hit the next matches, I had no prob whatsoever.

hum? Makes me wanna ask, could this be a browser prob? I am using netscape 4.05

Or maybe the server is being selective of who get's to search.. *giggle* (juuuuuuuuuuust kidding)

Yup, that has to be the only solution, the UBB's holding a grudge against you!

Netscape 4.5 here, though I don't see how /that/ error could be caused by a browser...

OK,

I guess I didn't study this problem exhaustively. I did a SearchUser search and found the problem, so I guess it's that combination that doesn't function right--which is probably why so few people have noticed it.

This bug is a little more subtle than I thought at first. When I search for posts by Jacob (using "Jacob Stetser" as the search-by-user name) and ask for an exact match I get the "next matches" bug mentioned above. On the other hand, if I use "Justin" or I ask for a partial match it works OK. At the moment it seems to be the two-word name combined with the exact match which causes difficulties.

Not a very significant bug. I just wanted to point out why I seemed to be the only one finding problems with the search script.

I found the problem If the name contains a space and you require exact match, it does that, showing nothing for "Next Matches". So it likes anyone with no spaces in their name, but Jacob Stetser and Dean B both cause the bug to appear.

That one was fun to figure out. Wonder how long it will take Ted to fix it?

I FIGURED IT OUT.. hahahhahahahhahahha

i went and did a search on Dean B, and it did exactly what you said. the link for the next ten matches would be:
Quote:
http://www.futurequest.net/cgi-bin/search.cgi?action=simplesearch&StartPoint=31&SearchTerms=&SearchU ser=Dean|PLS|B&ForumChoice=ALL&SearchIn= ALL&SearchDate=ALL&ExactName=yes&BooleanAND=YES

when it SHOULD BE:

Quote:
http://www.futurequest.net/cgi-bin/search.cgi?action=simplesearch&StartPoint=31&SearchTerms=&SearchU ser=Dean+B&ForumChoice=ALL&SearchIn=ALL& SearchDate=ALL&ExactName=yes&BooleanAND=YES
Since I don't have this forum.. I can't fix it.. BUT TERRA or DEB CAN.. giggle
