Stephen.. I was gonna email ya to ask you this question, but there is not an addy available.

I won't even pretend to know this answer, as I am not totally understanding the question, and I don't understand the idea of putting the .htaccess file for a script alias.

Quote:
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /big/dom/xrandommouse/cgi-bin/
this appears wrong?

I did email another FQ member to see if he could help ya.. and just for added measure, it mighta been better if ya posted this question under advanced development.. and had ya opened a thread on this question, the forum will email ya when ya get a response.

Stephen,

If you're using <A HREF="/cgi-bin/blabla/blabla.pl"> your HTML links should work without modifying your .htaccess, I think.

see, without changing anything in my account, I can already call http://www.icongarden.com/cgi-bin/bla-bla, from my web browser, and absolute links like you've mentioned should default to your root and work up from there.

I think Andrew has the script directory aliased already.

BTW, unmodified, your CGI-BIN will not serve text files. This is so people can't access private data files. So to serve text from the cgi dir, you'll have to modify the .htaccess or move it back into your www/ directory somewhere.

If I'm not mistaken, Jacob is right - provided that you set the permissions on the subdirectories to 755. A lot of people set up their UBB in /cgi-bin/ubb to keep from getting confused with their other scripts, and it works fine.

The scriptalias isn't necessary, because it's still in the cgi-bin.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks you guys (and hearts of course),

I swear I couldn't reach my cgi-bin from an HTML link in a page that referenced /cgi-bin/ directly. Now it works just fine! Go figure. Anyway, that's certainly the way I thought it should have worked, so all's well that ends well. Also, all's well that ends in magic (which seems to have been the case here).

-Stephen (now the fun begins!)

P.S. hearts, I'll make sure I update my profile when I get few spare minutes. Thanks again.
