Pair.com

So it looks like pair.com is using weebly for their infrastructure.

Re: Pair.com

Two big thumbs up for pair.com!

The first host I tried looked pretty good, even with a $6/month charge for a dedicated IP address. Then I tried to upload my site using rsync. Nope, rsync is only allowed on their VPS or dedicated servers. Bye Bye.

Sent emails to a bunch of hosts that I could find (some only do chat) listing my requirements:

shared hosting
linux
dedicated IP address
rsync use
ssh access
ssi (server side includes)
access to raw log files

A lot of them responded that I needed to use a VPS or dedicated server; overkill for my 3 little web sites. But pair.com replied that everything I needed was covered in their shared packages including a dedicated IP address. Signed up for package 1 (7.95/month or 7.55/month if paid yearly). So far so good. SSH works, rsync works, lots of knowledge base articles. Very happy so far.

Re: Pair.com

I've been with Pair for as long as FQ, at least. Have several legacy sites hosted on a shared account, and moving the last 3 over right now - zero extra cost on a basic $8 per month acount. I find them bulletproof. Great technical support, and as someone mentioned in the main thread, they're aware of people migrating from FQ right now, and are being very helpful.

I'm not sure what that means - they offer Weebly for a site builder, that's all

Thanks for this! I recognize which host was charging $6/mth for a dedicated IP You've convinced me to signup at Pair and try them as a backup. It helps that Pair only charge $2.50/mth for any additional dedicated IPs, much cheaper than Dreamhost!

That said - now I have my Pair account, my FTP speeds are *very* slow. I'm only getting 320kbps upload (my connection can do 20Mbps upload). And the hosted Pair site seems to be very slow compared to the one I have on Dreamhost (even on shared hosting there). Is this just some rate limiting in the first hour or two of signup? I think I'm in Pair's Denver datacenter, but I'm accessing from Australia.

Re: Pair.com

Haven't yet started the "heavy duty" upload via rsync. I have a dummy "under construction" index.html page that loads almost instantly. I'm also on the Denver data center, but near St. Louis, which is much closer.

Re: Pair.com

Is there a place where pair website owners can hang out like this forum?
There must be something: discord, telegram, reddit?

I haven't found one. But that's one of the things that made FutureQuest great. I didn't post much for most of my 23 years here. But I knew that when I did, I'd get an answer to my question. It's that community sense I'll miss.
