Alternatives to ezmlm

Hi,
Has anyone used Mailman or something else for discussion lists? If so, might that help with the problem of Verizon, Comcast, etc. blocking list messages from time to time?

I know about Mailchimp but it is both too much and too little for what we need. We need some discussion lists which isn't an option with Mailchimp. Our announcements are mostly text-only; we don't need to create "campaigns" to remind members of an upcoming meeting date.
