What is E-Mail on FutureQuest?

Whenever FutureQuest has access problems, one of the first complaints is the inability to send and receive E-Mail. From the knowledge base:

Note: FutureQuest® recommends using your own email client for primary email usage and QuestMail for those times when your email client is not readily available to you, such as when you are traveling or unable to access your personal terminal for whatever reason. QuestMail is made available as an added service and is not meant to be used as your primary email client.

Is there another E-Mail service on FutureQuest that I am not aware of? I have hosted a site here (https://www.narfe1020.org) for a few years but never made any use of FutureQuest E-Mail. A little enlightening would be welcome.

QuestMail is just a web interface (akin to gmail or hotmail, etc) to access your various email accounts as opposed to using a client software such as Outlook or Thunderbird on your PC/Mac.

So basically you'd use your email credentials you normally use on your email client on the QuestMail website and have a way to check your email from say a library computer or somewhere where you wouldn't necessarily have access to your normal way of checking your email (phone, tablet, pc).

Unfortunately, if there are issues with the email servers QuestMail isn't really going to help anything as it's just another interface to interact with down email servers.

The emphasis that folks are putting on Quest Mail had me wondering. I seldom use web mail.
