Re: Many thanks to FutureQuest for help with domain name problem
I still don't know what happened. The DNR's site is still there. I seriously doubt it was in the top ten. If you show me a list I'll confirm that.
My friend who initially set up our site with the original DNR still has a site registered there that she plans to transfer ASAP. I don't want to do anything that will reflect back on her until she transfers it away successfully. Which is why I'm not saying the name.
They hadn't been billing us for years but kept renewing our domain name. (And we are a non-profit so maybe they were being generous to a non-profit?) Being wise after the fact, we should have dealt with this. No such thing as a free lunch or domain name. But it went on for years and things were working. Until one day the site disppeared. No notice, no warning, no bill. (OK, the site was still there but the domain name didn't work.)
Somehow a hold was placed on the domain name too. Again, I don't know why. Maybe something the old domain name registrar did? We had to work with our new domain name registrar, Namecheap, to communicate with Afilias Registry Relations to get the hold removed.
But if you go to your DNR and the site works but you get an "Unable to connect" page when you try to log in you may have found them.
