Suggestions

Dear FQ admins,

When the major outage happened last month, I had posted the following suggestion for handling communication should future events of the kind occur. I realize that there is also this spot on the forums dedicated to proposing suggestions, so I repeat my post here:

-----

In re communication / future handling of things, may I make a broad suggestion? Here's a short-list of priority things should anything happen in the future:

(1) Check: is everyone at FQ physically okay (in case of fire, natural disaster, gas leak, etc.)?

(2) Immediately send out a notification to the community that something is wrong (be specific if you can; be general if you must). This should be done on a consistent platform, completely divorced from FQ (relying solely on the forums isn't great if the forums are down; relying on a Twitter account which you can't access because the email associated with it is on a FQ server is not great; having three (!) Twitter accounts and not even using the official one is not great).

(3) Delegate at least one person to do #2 and to keep on it. Updates should happen at the VERY least every hour without fail.

(4) If notifications of updates move during the repair process (for example, in the current emergency they moved to the forums after initially being done on a FB page that few knew about and on a Twitter feed which was SUPPOSED to be defunct), make sure to use the official emergency platform (see sentence #2 of point #2, above) to NOTIFY people that the change occurs. (A simple "see the forums for updates now" would have been sufficient).

(5) Fix the problem(s).

(6) #2 and #3; lather, rinse, repeat until #5 is completed.

Thank you for your consideration.

All best,
Eric

Re: Suggestions

I have a suggestion, get EVANGELION back up, it has been down for over 15 minutes before it showed on your status page.

Re: Suggestions

I think we're all in agreement. They fight many tech battles throughout every day we never know about, but the "transparency" of situations involving servers, PTs, etc being up or down MUST NOT be relegated to only coming here to look in the forums.

Terra, Bob, Kevin, et al: A number of us have been with FQ for 20+ years. PLEASE give us a definitive timeline on reexaming and *greatly* improving your response to customers' server and PT status information.

Thank you!

Re: Suggestions

I am trying to look after my very sick wife but instead I now have to spend the evening setting up email on a new cloud provider because FQ can't get their shizz together yet again.

So setting up Postfix, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, Spam Assassin and ClamAV because we don't know when or if anyone will be bothered to sort the DNS issue.

Exactly what I would have said. Thanks, Frank.

To which I would only add: Come on, guys. You're better than this.
