PHP and mySQL Versions for Wordpress

Wordpress is again nagging. Now it wants PHP version 7.4 and mySQL version 5.6. It also wishes that the optional module, imagick, was installed/enabled.

It's not refusing to run on the current 7.3.14 and 5.5.61-log versions on FQ.

I understand the argument that there is benefit to waiting before jumping onto the latest and greatest new releases of this software. Just wondering whey Wordpress thinks the newer versions are more secure and have better performance.
