Php 7

FutureQuest is pleased to announce we have a PHP 7 Beta Program... Finally

We are looking for some Beta Testers to make sure there are not any kinks we have missed. Note we are currently running PHP 7 on a few of our personal accounts, including one WordPress site.

Requirements:
1: Must have a script or application installed that is compatible with PHP 7
2: Must be comfortable working with your site's CNC and making .htaccess changes
3: Must be prepared to troubleshoot application/script issues that result from upgrading to PHP7

If you are interested in helping us test PHP 7 please send an email to the Service Desk, Service@FutureQuest.net, the email must be from the Primary or Technical contact address for your account.

In the email please indicate what Domain you want to use for testing PHP 7 as well as what Application(s) you are running.

Thank you,
Bob

Re: Php 7

I'm probably not a good candidate for the testing, but I am sending appropriate attaboys for making progress on this project. Wordpress continues to harangue site owners about running on an "insecure" older version of PHP, and it gets tiresome. Hopefully things will work well and all will be lovely in FQ Land in the near future!

Re: Php 7

As part of this process, we have enabled PHP 7.2 and 7.3 as options for CGI and CLI usage for everybody. These options are available right now by going to the "Server Information" page in your CNC and clicking the "Change PHP Version" button.

Is there any reason to do this now, given that the module version is not yet available in 7.x?

On what basis would one choose 7.2 versus 7.3? Information from a CGI script author?

For technical reasons, without making things harder on ourselves than necessary, we had the choice of letting anybody access PHP 7.x as a CGI or CLI, or not presenting it as an option for anybody. Since we wanted testers to have the option, now everybody has the option.

I don't myself know. The option was included for similar reasons as to why we have five 5.x versions: somewhere, someone is going to find a script that works with 7.2 and not 7.3, and we want to support that.

On the other hand, if we find that nobody is using the 7.2 option, it may be dropped in the future.

Re: Php 7

The only PHP application I use personally is OwnCloud and it is not 7.3.x compatible (yet).
