Change Main Domain on Account?

Hello,

I have 3 domains on my Futurequest account. My main domain is saltwaterforums.com, and I also have cookingforums.com, and samplesfamily.net as overlays.

I'm planning to cancel my main domain (saltwaterforums.com), and I'd like to know what effect this is going to have on my account, as to what to do with the overlays, logging onto CNC, etc.

I've tried the Knowledge Base for information on this, but haven't found anything. Any point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Re: Change Main Domain on Account?

Hello,

You have basically three choices...

1: Do nothing, as long as you continue to pay for your current hosting package your IRs will continue to work as it is, even if the main domain is no longer pointed here.

2: Order a domain name change and make one of your IRs the primary domain.

3: Order an Upgrade for one of your IRs to a full package and then order the 2nd IR as an IR to that package and then cancel your current hosting package.

#1 has the advantage of nothing has to be done by you and no additional cost

#2 will cost you $50.00 and you will have to make some coding changes such as paths and MySQL configs.

#3 is the best approach if you really want to get a fresh start, however you would have to pay for the one IR and set up the sites as new.

Re: Change Main Domain on Account?

Hey Bob, a quick followup on this:

I chose option 1 for now, and suddenly all of my sites have stopped working. On my WordPress sites I am getting "Error Establishing Database Connection", while other sites are just returning a blank screen. I'm assuming that the problem is that my MySQL host name (MySQL.saltwaterforums.com) is not resolving correctly now.

Is there a work around for this, or is Option 1 above not really viable if you're using MySQL?

Thanks again for the help.

Re: Change Main Domain on Account?

You can change the Hostname you are using for MySQL to MySQL.Saltwaterforums.com.fqdns.net
