Apache configuration

I'm interested in setting up my Apache servers on my development machines to, as closely as possible match those on FutureQuest. I'd like to have more confidence that what I set up in .htaccess files and what happens with the files I put in various directories matches, so that I have to do minimal experimentation and refining on the FutureQuest installation itself.

I know it's not likely that things can be identical, and I'm not expert on configuring Apache. But I wondered if some general instructions are possible to give me some confidence in what I set up?
