Migrating a site from Squarespace

Anything I need to know before I attempt to migrate a space from a different host? The site is currently on Squarespace and I plan to move it here to FutureQuest where I can build a brand new wordpress site.

I read the documentation on Squarespace and it seems obtaining the 'transfer key' is the key to it all.

I guess what I need to know is what order to do things. Like do I set up hosting first, or what?

Also the domain is held by a third party.

Hello,

A 'transfer key' is for moving your Domain Registration to another Domain Registrar.

To move your domain you would simply change the Name Servers for your domain with your current Domain Registrar.

The FutureQuest Name Servers are:
NS1.FutureQuest.net
NS2.FutureQuest.net
NS3.FutureQuest.net
https://www.FutureQuest.net/Services/Transfer/

If I am looking at the correct domain you have already done that and your Domain is pointed at FutureQuest.

The domain I am looking at has been at FutureQuest for a couple of years, so if this is a New Domain, one that isn't hosted here already,
then you would want to Order a New Hosting Package for the domain, then change the name servers.

Also it appears that Squarespace has an Export feature that is somewhat compatible with WordPress, and to move your content you would want to read this:

Hi again,

If for a new site then my personal recommendation would be as follows:

1: Order New Hosting Package

2: Export your content from Square Space

3: This step is tricky... If you want to set up a WordPress site here at FutureQuest before you change your name servers then you would need to manually install WordPress

Alternatively if your site can be offline for a bit then change your Name Servers and after Propagation use the CNC App Manager to Install WordPress.

4: Follow the instructions for importing your SquareSpace site

5: Check everything and fix any issues and done... in theory...

It's OK for site to be down during the changeover. This is a church website I'm taking over. Is there any reason to be in touch with the company we pay for the domain name?

That is where you have to arrange to change the Name Servers at.
