Hardware suggestion

My Shuttle K48 Linux home server just bit the dust after 5 years of continuous operation. As the KPCs are no longer available, I am looking for suggestions on a quiet, low-power replacement. Requirements include space for 2 internal SATA drives 1"x4"x6" drives and an RS-232 connector; barebones kit ok.

Re: Hardware suggestion

It is a bit old now but both Terra and I have had luck using the SuperMicro MBD-X7SPA-HF-O motherboard+CPU. Just add however much RAM you want and put it in whatever case+power supply you like. I am sure there is a newer version with more CPU power but I haven't been shopping for a while.

We are both using them as home routers running OpenBSD with flash storage so our cases are smaller than what you would want.

If you want the serial port for serial console note that this board has IPMI so you can do Serial Over LAN or iKVM instead of using the plain serial port (which it does have if you want it for something else).
