Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Unfortunately the only way to truly verify that a backup is restorable is to restore it. In the case of a MySQL dump that is pretty easy as you can create a new database and restore the backup to it

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

I got the impression that FutureQuest only allows one MySQL database per account, at least at the level I'm paying for, so it seems like creating a new database and backing up to it would be impractical...?

Nope, our smallest account allows up to 10. But you have to create and delete them from the MySQL Manager in the CNC.

Then maybe only one MediaWiki per account? I don't remember what the restriction was, but I do remember there was something preventing me from having more than one MediaWiki on my account. (And it seems like I wouldn't be able to check the actual wiki files without installing a full MediaWiki. Please advise if that's incorrect.)

Possibly what you recall is the limitation that only allows 1 IRM per package to access MySQL?

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

I have same as you - an empty application_backups subdir under xAcctNam. My experience has been that the location of Installatron backups has changed a couple times in the last year so I'm not surprised that you report a slightly different directory than Bob. Originally it was under the www directory then it moved to the xAcctNam directory. The application_backups subdir is the 3rd location.

Thanks for reporting that it's working again but I don't think I'll use it. I lost a whole day when one of the aborted attempts changed the htaccess file. That's all it changed and ultimately it was a 2 minute fix but I had no way of knowing that until after I did a lot of looking around...

My 18 Aug ticket with them is still pending (I just checked) but at this point I can't imagine depending on it to do a restore anyway, so it's disappointing but what can you do

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

update in case it helps anyone

the backups may be working again

for backups - for Wordpress installations but perhaps other apps as well, there is what I believe is a new option for the backup location: a generic 'your hosting service'. If that is selected, a manual backup appears to work just fine. Another new storage location though . This time a directory is created under the www directory.

no response from Installatron yet, my last ticket from August is still open - I happened to notice the new option while doing something unrelated, and tried it just for grins.

I didn't verify it by doing a restore ... I'll let someone else do that -- so all I can vouch for is that it completed happily - didn't generate any errors and doesn't appear to have caused any problems - and it created a new file that is about the right size compared to other backups just completed

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Based on what we can see the majority of backups are working however for those that may still be seeing an issue you may want to try the following:

Please access your CNC App Manager, disable backups, wait a couple of days.

Then enable backups again, making sure to use the "My web hosting account." setting for Default Backup Location, then choose the frequency of backups, then make sure to "Save All"

One of my personal accounts was failing and after I did the above sequence they started working.
