Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
Hi again Diane,
We did get your ticket and have sent additional information to the Installatron folks.
As this is critical to you, you may want to consider looking into some of the WordPress plugin backup options which would be independent of Installatron...

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
Thanks Bob - there was been so much missing email that I wasn't sure if you did or not.
Thanks also for the suggestion - Yes I suppose I should install an independent backup utility, I was hoping not to have to make time, but yes it is a good idea.

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
btw - the installation which I've been using to test whether or not the installatron backups work, and which I used to file the primary report, has an odd problem all of a sudden - all the pages except the home page give 404 errors
http://www.rachelmatthewsmusic.com/p...uction/studio/
(it may have nothing to do with the installatron problems but you know that of course I think that it does until I find out otherwise )
In general are you recommending that we don't use installatron? that we just install and manage our spaces ourselves?

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
do you think the problem has anything to do with the fact that the wordpress installation is not in the root?
The blog all of a sudden has multiple problems, one of which is that the security plugin is reporting that there isn't an htaccess file in the wordpress root anymore.
While looking at the space with Filezilla, I notice an .htaccess.itpreperl file that was created on August 10th (last Monday) I didn't create it and didn't update anything then either ... I also see a whole series of 'deleteme..' php files - one for each time I've tried to do a backup via installatron...
they are sitting under www/piano-instruction/studio
correction?/note - the client updated the landing page to add 3 links to forms I made for her on the 10th, so there was a change made on the site but I think think adding content to a page would update htaccess

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
followup
the problem was that .htaccess.itpreperl file created on the 10th
all the 'missing' pages reappeared (after renaming it to just plain .htaccess) - I'm still having trouble with one plugin but that may be an independent issue

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
Installatron backups now seem to be working correctly for me. However, I'd like to download a backup for offline storage, and I'm not sure where in the structure of my website the backups are kept. The Installatron folks have again been rather slow to respond about this. Do any of you Futurequest folks know where the backups would be?
Also, can you recommend a way to verify that a downloaded backup is correct/complete/updated?
Thanks!

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
My install created an application_backup folder which contained the backup, at the top level of my account /big/dom/xdomain/application_backups.
As for verifying the backup, it would depend on what was being backed up, some applications such as WordPress would be more difficult to verify and I just keep a few copies so if I need to restore and one is bad I can try another...

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected
My website also has a /big/dom/xdomain/application_backups folder, but it is empty. There is, however, a folder located at big/dom/xdomain/www/.application_backups that seems to have the backup I made through Installatron. Does that seem correct? There are earlier backups in the folder one level up from that one.
The app is a MediaWiki. Looking through an extracted version of the archive, it looks like the LocalSettings.php reflects the most recent changes I've made. There isn't any way to directly check the wiki database for up-to-date-ness, right?
Thanks as always for the help.

I took a quick look at your account and the sql file in the archive looks like a MySQL dump of the database without the standard comments that the mysqldump command would have made. Normally the comments would tell you what database was being backed up and when. As for whether or not it is current I don't really see how it could backup an out of date version of the database.

Is that a problem? I'm not experienced with databases. My main concern here is that the backups actually be enough to rebuild the complete, up-to-date-as-of-backup wiki from in the event of disaster.

Hmm, good point. I guess what I mean is, is any given archive actually complete and thorough (and up to date?) enough to rebuild the wiki from?
