App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Hi, I must be doing something wrong -- when the Installatron (the App Center) deletes a backup, shouldn't it also delete the files on the server?

Whatever I'm doing wrong is consistent on 3 accounts

The Installatron app creates the backup but when I delete that same file, it only deletes it from it's list... not from the server... I'm looking at the files in filezilla in another window and also the handy new disk space manager tool and the files show up when created and usage goes up but the files stay and the usage stays the same, which makes me think that the app is only deleting the entry from it's index...

They are all backups of small WordPress blogs.

The other odd thing is that the backups all worked when I set these up last fall or so but as of about Dec I started getting notices that they failed...

These blogs are all seldom used, budget-minded clients so this wasn't a high priority but finally I'm looking at it and in order to get a backup to work I had to edit the settings (for each)...

Previously apparently the default location for backups was the www directory.

Now the backups are going in the xaccountname directory...

They are named a little differently also...

Thirdly, in addition to thinking that the app should be able to delete the files it creates, esp.when it warns me that it will be, I'm feeling pretty stupid that I don't seem to be able to enter a path into the path field which it likes... I'd rather not have the backups go into either the www or the xaccountname directories... I'd kinda like to have them to into their own little cubbyholes...

The 3 accounts and their blogs are below - Thanks in advance for any help...

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Hello Diane,

We have had some reports of issues with backups from the App Manager and have been in contact with the Installatron folks trying to determine what the issue may be.

Our apologies for any inconvenience and we will post here again when we have any further information.

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Hi Bob, Thanks for letting me know it isn't just me -- I stared at those directories for the longest time, trying to figure out some difference perhaps between rights which might account for why it didn't delete a file it just created... ugh ... I don't want to have to remember to go back and manually delete those ... hopefully the examples I gave you can be helpful. - Diane

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Hi Bob - any progress? -

I received automatic backup failure notices again.

Tried to do a manual backup but it failed, appeared to connect to the database but was not able to access the backup location (which had not been changed since the last successful backup);

Signed in with filezilla to verify that is all working

Went back to the installatron window - tried to re-enter a backup location - received an error that the mysql database connection failed. I've kept a screenshot snippet of this error message.

Went to the control panel window, signed in with phpmyadmin to also verify login etc

I'm also going to contact installatron of course - any help here would be appreciated.

~ Thanks, Diane

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Hello,

Unfortunately not yet, we have sent three additional messages to installatron regarding these issues.

We did find some information in the FTP logs and just sent that yesterday and I will follow-up with them early next week if nothing is heard back.

Our apologies,
Bob

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Hi ....

I don't know what your problems are with them but I think mine may be solved -- and the solution was extremely simple and obvious in hindsight (the clue was the directory change). Apparently the app requires FTP over SSL now.

I was using plain ftp because it didn't really matter and it was one less variable, plus some sites have been set up for a while.

Switching to SFTP has solved the problem of generating backups with the app - and I'll bet it solves the older problem of deleting the automatic ones as well.

I think there was a change and then plain ftp was turned off. And that the change happened when the location of the backups changed (even though I hadn't changed anything) because (annoyingly) the default directory for ftp over ssl is different.

Hope this helps you or someone else, Diane

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

I can't seem to get my Zen Cart to be backed up at all. The error message is:

Backing-Up: Error: Upload failed. Please re-add the backup location and try again.

I tried to re-add many times.

After I hit the 'Backup' button , I see messages in 'logs_services/ftp/ftp.20150716' and there seems to be chatter between featurequest.futurequest.net and my web server on futurequest (69.5.14.132), but there is no mention of the SFTP server I tried to put the backups on.

From my futurequest server (69.5.14.132), I can sftp using the server name (where I want the backups to go), user name and password with no problem.

Thanks for any help!

Andy.

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

Hello Andy,

This is most likely related to the other posts regarding backup issues with Installatron which is still being worked on.

The technicians have been working to implement some updates to try and resolve the backup issues but have run into some issues which are still being investigated.

As soon as I know there may be some resolution with these issues I will post here again.

Again our apologies,
Bob

Re: App Center's Installatron backups not working as expected

I'm having similar problems. At first, I was receiving "XXXXXX Wiki Backup Failed" messages for several weeks, several times a day, late last year. Then recently, I haven't been able to figure out the FTP information for my backups. Within the past few days, that's gotten solved, but now I can't do backups because (as the error report says),
Quote:
Due to the size of this install a file over 2GB must be created. This is a 32bit operating system which cannot create files larger than 2GB due to PHP limitations. Please contact your service provider to troubleshoot this further.
The estimated size of the backup is 200-some MB, so it's a little surprising and very frustrating to have the backup process fail because it's over ten times larger. Maybe the 2 GB is pre-compression? Regardless, I'd really like to get some backups working! My site is seriously behind on critical stuff because I haven't been able to get a backup recently.
