About protecting a domain name

I have no confidence in my (lack of) creative ability to build a web site so I am thinking of letting web.com do it for me.

In case you don't know about web.com, they have an ad running on TV that they'll build a web site for free and I pay for it monthly after the first thirty days only if I decide to keep it.

I had a domain name hijacked in 1997 that took me ten years+ to finally get back so my question is how to give web.com access to the domain and still protect my control of the domain name.

Any other comments or suggestions concerning my plan or web.com would also be appreciated.
