Data Center Cameras

With the recent Java exploits/vulnerabilities, would it be a good idea to FQ to upgrade their data center camera software clients to not require Java to run?

Re: Data Center Cameras

The cameras and the software is pretty ancient and I doubt there is really much that we can do about it as is. We may end up simply junking them and we may or may not be replacing them. They are so old that they aren't even actual web cams.

I'd sure like to see them upgraded!

The data center cameras are one of the reasons I host my site here. I know it sounds like a pretty lame reason, but I'm a data center junkie, and AFAIK is the only host that gives you a real-time view of the data center where your site is running.

Re: Data Center Cameras

I just noticed while I was taking the "FQ Data Center Tour". I suppose there are a few of those pages that need to be updated.

Actually, much of that stuff still looks like that. The most out of date page there is the network info.

We have added a bunch more stuff since those pics were taken but the local guy with the nice camera doesn't work for us anymore and I don't even own a cheap one (other than my phone camera)

Just a quick little mention that this information has since been updated.

Also wanted to note that this is on the agenda for discussion. Although the solution may not be determined right away, just wanted to let you know that you have been heard and we appreciate receiving the feedback.

Re: Data Center Cameras

Good news everyone...

The cameras are working again.

I eventually traced the problem to a wall wart power transformer that powered the little black box that sits between the cameras and the PC. It took me forever to figure that out because bizarraly it was still making the LEDs blink like they were supposed to (my meter says the 12VDC adapter was only outputting .2VCD) so I was concentrating on the software with completely unhelpful error messages.
