Joomla

I've had a site on FQ for a couple years now that I built with NetObjects Fusion Essentials. I've upgraded it over the years, however the site is badly in need of some modernization and what I've been using is just too quirky.

After looking at many of the alternatives, I'm strongly considering Joomla both for ease of construction and future alterations. I do have two big concerns that I'd love to get some feedback on however.

Is it possible to set it up so my current site (customdrill.com) continues while I work on the new site in Joomla? ...and if you've used Joomla with FQ what problems if any did you have setting up or suggestions do you have to making it easier to set up.

Thanks very much for sharing any of your experiences with me. http://www.futurequest.net/forums/im.../YQT/smile.gif

Re: Joomla

Hi Mark,

I'm using both versions of Joomla on several packages here at FQ. Some customer of mine are using 1.5.* and some 2.5.*. Both versions are running fine and without any problems for years now. There were no problems during installation or during operation.

Like any other software you have to check for updates on a regularly base. I subscribed to the Joomla Security Bulletin to receive update information. Also be aware of 3rd party scripts. They are often poorly written and not secure!!! To avoid problems with your Joomla installation, do only install secure scripts from well-known Joomla-programmers. Do not install every script you think you _could_ need. Only install script when you _really_ need them.

Normally I install Joomla into a hidden, password protected directory of the package like x_newhp. The actual homepage is still active. After doing all the work (Templates,), I switch the current homepage offline by moving it into a directory like x_oldhp. The content of the x_newhp is transferred to the root-folder of your package. After that, you only have to do a few changes within the configuration.php file.
