payment gateway

Hi I am looking for a payment system, merchant account to put on a website to accept credit cards. I am in italy here most banks offer payment systems for the web if you are a client of the bank, they are all pretty easy to install and intergrate into your site. My client is at home in the USA I am looking for a payment system other than paypal that can accept credit card payments and if possible the money goes into my client's account. I saw kagi and a couple others I don't want to install there software on the site, the cart on the site I made so I just need to send the variables to the payment site ect..

thanks
tony

Re: payment gateway

One of my clients uses the merchant services available through Costco (a retailer/warehouse type store) and has been very happy.

Edit - I also have a client using uSight, with good results.

Re: payment gateway

Tony, if your client is located in the US, then it is much easier to get a merchant account. I wouldn't recommend Costco except for the retail/warehouse scenario Mandi mentioned. Never heard of uSight, so no comment on it.

Feel free to PM me, but factors that determine the best provider are:
1. How risky is your client's business?
2. How long has client been in business and what's their credit rating?
3. Will transactions be done offline (card present), by telephone, by Internet (or some mix)?
4. What percentage of business will be outside US and what relationship does your client have with those non-US customers?

Based on the answers to these, I'd be happy to recommend a suitable provider.
