Banner design

I have a question about Banners. I have photoshop and know how to use it, and I have a nice graphic I would like to use as a banner for my website.

I read banners should be 468 x 60 and no more than 20 kb in jpeg or gif format.

Can I make my own? Is a banner just a graphic image with these dimensions?

I've looked at some of the free banner links, but I would like to use my own graphic, since images are an important facet of my website. (sorry for all you who dislike large images!!)

Other than seeing the banner ads at Future Quest, I'm not sure what their purpose is.

Any advice would be useful.

Re: Banner design

Banners are typically used on other sites to advertise and link to your site. The sizes you've referenced are what we've specified for banners used on our site through our free banner advertising (http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb154) -- other sites that allow advertising may have different requirements.

For an example of banners that other FutureQuest site owners have done, just visit the knowledgebase link above and you'll see a banner at the bottom. Reload and you'll see another. Reload and you'll see another. Etc etc. When you're ready, you can submit your own banner through the form on that page.

Right, but can I make the banner image, in photoshop, upload it to my website, then use the form on the FQ page ? (provided it meets the above mentioned requirements ?)

Yes, you can make the image however you choose...it just needs to be within the specified requirements.

Re: Banner design

Hmm... seems when I reduced my banner proportions they were a little off- 468 x 80 or 351 x 60...

I'll have to work on it. Thanks Melissa for your help.
