my site

Since I really don't get on the forum much, and I really am happy here with futurequest, (great customer service) ...And because I want to promote my history website a bit more ... I offer this humble post !

My website is a history site. It's about one Union Regiment in the Civil War, and I add pages to it as often as I can. I've been building new pages for nearly 3 years now. The later pages use css, and I think they look better; the early pages are all html with tables. I intend to convert the old pages to css soon.

The latest page (2nd Bull Run) was just uploaded in late January. If you like history, you might enjoy my site.

Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks fq community!

Re: my site

Very nice! Especially interesting to me as I live in MA for the time being, and we are a military family.

I can't believe the amount of history you've collected and compiled! What an invaluable resource and a true tribute and service to the soldiers and their families. Fascinating.

Re: my site

Thanks All. As I said, I don't get here often enough and I just checked back today. I appreciate all the comments, as I do this pretty much alone, with only small bits of feedback. I have made a few connections with other Civil War bloggers and enthusiasts.

Re: my site

I do read a lot of CW history, but can't claim "enthusiast." Sites like yours are great for someone like me who loves to read history and view old photos and maps but doesn't have time to do all the footwork of the scholar.

Re: my site

I intended for each 'detail' page to be like a separate 'magazine article' on a specific topic. I couldn't expect anyone to continuously read all of this history. -even if they have an interest in the regiment! But its there for those interested, and you can learn a great deal about the changing circumstances and attitudes of the war by following along with the soldiers' letters. -- I certainly did !
The goal of the site is for the soldiers' letters and reminiscences to tell the story of the regiment. There are a lot of funny stories posted. Usually these are the reminiscences.

Individual stories are linked from the 'site map' page. Its another way to navigate the site. And maybe a good way to read one story at a time as entertainment. They are surprisingly well written.
Thanks again

Re: my site

I know I have brought this up before but it was in a music oriented thread so here goes...

I am big into history and WWII is my favorite. Even though it isn't my favorite I still like Civil War stuff. One of my favorite pieces of music is this 32 minute long heavy metal epic about the battle of Gettysburg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M155Er6PFz0

I don't think that the 13th Massachusetts Volunteers are mentioned in it specifically but the 1st corps are in the first part. Anyway, it is a wonderful musical version of the battle that manages to not take sides.

It was originally released in a 2 disc CD album of all history and patriotic songs (http://www.icedearth.com/discography...lorious-burden) and was later released on a 2 disc DVD with 5.1 audio (http://www.icedearth.com/discography/gettysburg-1863). I own both and listen to them regularly.
