New Year's visit to Nishiarai Daishi (Japanese Temple)

We visit this temple every January for "hatsumode". This is a New Year's tradition where we bring our old talismans to be burned (thus purifying our home) and purchase new ones for the new year. Nishiarai Daishi is one of the largest temple complexes in Tokyo; a major attraction. It's usually quite crowded. We make an effort to get there early, and this year I had some time to wander around and take snaps with my cell phone before it got crowded.

Interesting custom. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Happy New Year from Southern California. This photo was taken by my hubby a couple of days after the week of rain we had here. This is the view from the main street that runs by our house. Somehow the mountains just do not look as impressive in this photo as they do in person. They were amazing that day. Huge and glowing white.

My mother lives in San Diego, and she mentioned the mountains this week. I've been to visit her two or three times. I scratched my head. "Mountains?" There they are ...

My latest pictures of Fuji-san are at the developer's right now. I'll try to have them up tomorrow.
