I wanna buffalo nickel NOW

I can't get over what they've done to the nickel.

It's gonna take a while to accept this as real money, but the design is stunning.

Traditionalists will hate it, of course.

Holo-what? We do have a bimetallic coin (two dollar coin), but nothing holographic on the coins. However, we do have holograms on some of our paper money.

Cool. I hadn't seen those. I thought you were referring to coins that were actually in circulation. Those are pretty cool.

Sure. Depends how much you're willing to send, of course.

Buy some!

I picked up a nickel somewhere that commerates Lewis and Clark, or maybe it was the Louisiana Purchase. I forget which one, but it is a 2004 nickel.

These new ones are pretty cool.

The US Mint's site is nice, I've ordered from it several times. There are a few gold and platinum coins I'd like

Yes, finally a place where I can give the company I work for a little exposure. PMX Industries It's a brass and copper mill and some of the material we produce is used by the U.S. Mint to make Quarters, Dimes, the "New" nickels, and who could forget the lovely "Golden Dollar" coins that came out in 2000?. And since someone mentioned Canadien money, just today we were producing and shipping material for the Royal Canadien Mint. I find it rewarding watching material going through the mills and knowing that it'll be change in someone's pocket soon. O.k now, back to the thread.

Appropriately enough, my first encounter with the Louisiana Purchase nickel (and maybe the Lewis and Clark one too) was in New Orleans last spring -- I don't know if I've actually seen any of them in circulation up here. But I buy a proof set every year and the two nickels were included.

I acquire some foreign coins whenever someone in my family travels out of the country (my mom should have some Australian coins for me next month). My favorite is a bi-metallic coin from Mexico, which I think I like better than Bruce's Canadian one. I only collect circulating coins, though I do like the design of this colored 25-cent coin.

But I haven't seen anything like that 2005 nickel. We wantsss it, my Precious...

Hey Daytripper -- ya got any connections inside the US Mint?

Next time you see me (I'll be speaking at Hartford Pride Saturday) remind me to dig down into my purse for some Swedish Krona for you. I've only got a few left because I give them to panhandlers on the street too
