How & when are people's attachments .lnk files?

Occasionally when people try to send an attachment, they accidentally send a .lnk file using outlook express. (My antivirus removes these since they look like a virus and lets me know that the .lnk has been removed.) Now the question - when and how exactly are these .lnk files being attached when the people are trying to send an attachment (so I can tell them what not to do by accident.)

I've been wondering about that myself, because one of our clients did that to us recently. It was supposed to be a QuickBooks file, but all we got one one lousy kilobyte.

I think I found it:

Tell them not to check the "Make Shortcut to this file" box. (What was Microsoft thinking...?)

Interesting - I never noticed that there, but you're right, it's an instant way to not actually attach your file

Thanks once again for solving the mystery Randall.

No, that's just the file WinXP creates when you view a folder in thumbnail mode. Sorry to disappoint you.

Is Thumbs+ a good program?

My bad. When I researched digital photo management software a few years ago, ThumbPlus was the only software to satisfy the majority of my requirements. Been a happy user since. Cerious is very good about getting desired features into the beta cycle on a timely basis.

First program I've seen with color management support. I'll have to check it out.
