I never thought that Charley might be a 'practice run.'

I swore off controlling the weather because of the terrible headaches, but I'll give it another shot this week.
|
You're going at it all wrong -- you want to control the weather people, not the weather.
Trying to control the weather will just give you a headache, but threatening some doofus weather guy with bodily harm is a great mood lifter. ("Give us some nice beach weather, and make it snappy.")
Better hurry, though. The news is getting worse and worse.

This lil egg was dropped in the water...sadly I don't know how long ago outside of the fact that it wasn't there a couple of hours ago...so I'm really not sure how viable it is. It's a baby three stripped mud turtle egg and mommy was right in front of it when it was noticed so I THINK maybe it wasn't there that long ago.
I wont have power soon (generators are tough to find) and I don't know how long it'll be w/o power but I'll try to keep her warm with an old fashioned incubation routine.... Just in case...
There should be two eggs (she was x-rayed a while back)...so I dunno if we have another one coming soon.... maybe they'll be Charley and Frances if we get real lucky and they hatch.
Ok..I've gotta get back to dealing with the coming storm but I also HAD TO STOP BY AND SHARE THE NEWS.
I can't believe I need a series of hurricanes to get my turtles in gear!!!! But it seems like a positive sign showing new life in an area where many are fearing loss of life...

Bring it over here, maybe my daughter with the 101 temp could incubate it properly . . . nothing is ever straightforward around here, making disaster plans. Grrrr. I think we're just in for a major soaking here, anyway.
Happy Egg Day, regardless!! That is exciting ! It seems like with reptiles, you get twice as many happy days compared to us boring mammals - you get an egg day, and a hatching day. (I suppose mammals do indeed have both, but the former is typically a lot more private LOL!)

This picture is from yesterday. Impressive view from the GOES-12 satellite. Click on the image to enlarge even further.

I thought I was safe here in Pensacola. Looking at the recent projected paths of Frances, I fear that it might head here, even if it will be a little weaker than it is now. It could still get stronger as it goes over the gulf.
Right now I'm mostly worried for a friend of mine who lives in Orlando. I hope she'll be safe during it all. I'm also worried about everyone here at FQ. Take care guys.
Now I have to go buy stuff in case the storm comes here, and before the rest of the city realises that the storm migth head here.

Notice how Monty's weather model animation doesn't show the hurricane skimming the coast anymore -- it just swallows the whole @#$% state.
I hope Deb and Terra have stopped worrying about our silly little web sites (well, mine is pretty silly) and turned their full attention to bracing themselves for that fluffy pinwheel thing in the sky...

Your "silly little websites" equal our jobs.... There's no way we'd want our homes AND our jobs in jeopardy. As long as we save our family's lives and our jobs...we can at least work to rebuild the rest .... Therefore... after the children's safety... (ok and the turtles ) your "silly little website" takes priority
Stay very alert and safe everyone..regardless where you are in these storms paths.
Deb
