Five Lined Skink babies

When my husband was doing some excavating near our deck, he found two nests of skink eggs. My daughter set up a terrarium for them, and now we have at least one lizard baby running around the terrarium. Does anybody have any advice on what to feed the little thing? I would think it would need small food....a website I found suggested "pinhead crickets" but I don't know what those are. Another site said:
Quote:
Young Five Lined Skinks will require feeding 3 times a day, adults should be fed only once a day.
A good diet should include a mixture of the following, earthworms, snails, slugs, crickets, wax worms, mealworms, silk worms and hoppers (baby locusts).
Most of these things are bigger than the baby....

Pinhead crickets are really tiny crickets

According to this website they are newly hatched crickets...
and you can buy them, which is way better than hunting them.
The site below is in the UK, but I'm sure there's a cricket store in your neighborhood. Well, maybe not.

I've not kept skinks yet so don't know much but I do buy a lot of crickets

For online ummm fresh food buying needs...I use http://www.ReptileFood.com

We get our little dinner critters from them on time every time and at a good price

It's hard to find the right sized crickets at the petshops and I've had issues with other "friendlies" hitchhiking a ride home with the crickets which annoys me to no end. So if you do find yourself needing to feed live foods for any length of time, I'd strongly recommend setting up a critter keeper and purchasing from places such as ReptileFood.com online. You get what you pay for and NOTHING ELSE

- Red wigglers, 3 diff sizes of crickets, meal worms, etc... yummmmy!

Wow - that is a good price! I had a friend raising leopard geckos in Kodiak, and the crickets were more expensive every week, than (good quality) dog food for three dogs!! I'll have to drop her the link . . . owe her an email anyway.

There are at least three, but the little guys are camera shy. Or maybe just shy. They run from shadows and vibrations. This photo is through the glass and isn't the best, but it's the best we can do right now.

We've got a pet store in the area that specializes in reptiles, so I'll be stopping by there shortly. We might not decide to keep these guys permanently, but I would like to keep them until my daughter gets back from music camp so she can see them!

Maybe I'll send my mom a link -- the whole concept of a reptile food web site should freak her out. She accepts the fact that not all reptiles are snakes, but she'll always suspect that they're lurking somewhere behind the non-snakes.
