Secondary DNS

Is it possible to setup secondary DNS for our Futurequest accounts as described by GoDaddy:
https://www.godaddy.com/help/enable-...s-slaves-23911
?

The Futurequest nameservers would need to accept AXFR requests from GoDaddy and also send NOTIFY requests - do they?

A client would like to have access to their email hosted elsewhere if Futurequest nameservers are down.

We run the DJBDNS server software. It supports but recommends against using AXFR requests and doesn't support NOTIFY requests at all.

However, if a different provider is involved, you can always also use their DNS servers. We just can't automatically update them or receive updates from them. But there aren't that many entries so you could just go into our DNS Manager (in the CNC) and copy all the entries to the other provider and then set both companies' name serves in the domain's registration.

This wouldn't meet the requirement of DNS in different geolocations, though, right?

Unless I am misunderstanding your terms I don't see why it wouldn't.

GoDaddy, for instance, seems to have an all or nothing process about specifying nameservers. You either use their's, or specify other's (eg at Futurequest). Or alternatively, the secondary DNS with which I began this thread.

You mean they won't let you use 1 or 2 of ours and 1 or 2 of theirs? I don't use GoDaddy myself (I have in the past) but that would surprise me a bit.

Right. Their options are here:

It makes sense, because you wouldn't want there to be conflicts between nameservers that aren't updated with each other by zone transfer.

I guess they might have something to prevent you from entering their servers in strange ways but other than that you should be able to enter whatever you want in the last choice. I have my computer at home as the primary name server for my personal domain.
