SETI

The Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence

Overall Recognition:

The Total Team - The FutureQuest SETI team has grown to 212 members, donated over 137,305 results, and given over 206 years of CPU time! The team is in the Top 200 list of small companies, currently sitting in the top 30!

Free IRMs, IROs, & Sub-Domain Awards! - In the spirit of community, FutureQuest has agreed to give away IRMs, IROs, and Sub-Domains to the SETI Team! Each month (or something like that) we will place one ticket, per hour donated, into a hat (or bowl, or box or program *g*) and draw three winners. Each winner will have their choice of a free IRM, IRO, or Sub-Domain to add to their main account on FutureQuest! If your team has donated 300 hours then you have 300 chances to win! If you are not currently a member of the SETI team you may want to join now, you may even want to beg your friends to help you earn more hours!

Please note the legal stuff: This offer is not valid anywhere that it may be unlawful. There will be no cash value granted in replace of the awards. One award per team unless all teams have won at least one award. The IRM, IRO, or Sub-Domain will be placed on the domain that is leading the FutureQuest SETI sub-team title. FutureQuest staff/computers do not qualify (they have too many IROs already anyway *g*)

Rumors:

  • December 12th, 2000 - SetiGate is not a conspiracy, it is a Windows-based program to cache and distribute Seti@home work units! Key features allow you to keep track of your own progress, exporting work units and results to and from non-networked computers etc. It may be worth a look. Click Here for more info. :)

  • October 26th 2000 - Since our last update, the FutureQuest SETI Team has moved into the #21 spot among the Top 100 Small Company Teams, and all attention now turns to moving into the Top 20! (Of course we all know what the ultimate goal is. ;)) Again, a THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to the team effort. Small contributions or large, they are equally appreciated!

  • Oct 20th 2000 - Jeff, from BoatDesign.net establishes that NT's proxy server isn't SETI Friendly. But never fear! Jerry, from HappyRose.com, steps in with the cure! Click here for details. Yet another display of a community that works.

  • September 17th 2000 - Brnoe decides that digital pictures of the new NOC need to be placed on billboards across the nation so that ET does not lose his way. It is feared that they may take the old route not knowing that we have moved to bigger and better facilities.

  • September 16th 2000 - TeRRa, our Sys Admin, noticed the SETI program was slowing down (Thx for finally noticing us!) and decided to kick us all into gear by racing to the top. Did anyone notice his last 40 packets were delivered within the last 24 hours?!?!?!?!! I guarantee you that Deb noticed all the new PCs sitting around the office with SETI on them.

  • September 5th 2000 - Team Members start to live in the past by congregating within old threads. Frank can be blamed for this phenomenon.

  • January 19th 2000 - Was the late delivery of a winners list due to a millennium bug?

  • December 1st 1999 - Controversy has begun over whether or not holiday lights will discourage Extraterrestrial Intelligence from showing up.

  • November 29th 1999 - Justin Nelson claims Extraterrestrial Intelligence has played an intricate part of the New CNC code!

  • November 5th 1999 - Deb claims to have been affected with time distortion due to alien intrusion. This caused updates to the SETI project to be delayed. BUT! They couldn't stop her! The SETI page has been updated and extra IRM, IRO, and sub-domains have been given away!

  • Aug 31st 1999 3:45 UTC - Diamond-Back reported that a message appeared on his free screen saver that said, You have been sent an intergalactic greeting. Forward this transmission to 20 other planets in the next 30 astronomical minutes or your world will be destroyed by a large meteor. This is not a joke. For this reason, FutureQuest has decided that a larger allowance for the EZ-MLM mailing list on ET's free domain will be granted (as long as ET understands our strict "No Spam" rules)!

  • Aug 20th 4:01pm ETC - Ted from Tygre Systems claims that Dean from D M City was found by the SETI Screen Saver!

  • Aug 29th - The Nurelm Team has agreed to help ET build a free ecommerce site when they show up. The offers are growing ET. Appear now before it's too late!

  • Sept 5th - Deb from the FutureQuest Team has requested a raise since it has become obvious via the SETI Project that her and NEO are the only ones who do any real work around here!

Join The Team!

Add your web site to the FutureQuest SETI Group and help us find ET!.

Step 2: Download the appropriate version for your computer... (links on top of the home page)

Step 3: Go through the simple install.. during installation you will "Create an Account". (let it run from here)

Step 4: Go to
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/account_area.html and click on "Change User Account Info" just to assure all is ok and how you want it... (you'll probably need to click on the link to receive your password.. they just email it to you)

Step 5: Go to
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/fcgi-bin/fcgi?cmd=team_lookup&name=FutureQuest
and click on "Join This Group"

Step 6: Join the group

Step 7: Keep an eye on our group and see if we either find ET or at least start gaining an edge on some of the other groups in the top 100 list of "Small Businesses"

Tips:

To add exposure for your web site use a NickName that relates to your site. A good idea may even be to call yourself yourdomain.com

If you own an interactive site that would enjoy something like this... request your visitors sign up too! They could either join the FutureQuest group with a NickName such as YourNick-TheirNick (so we know who to give credit to) or you could run it differently and just have all of their credits transferred to your main account, that is within the FutureQuest group. Use your imagination and have some fun with it! If you do involve your web site's visitors with SETI, let us know so we can help others gain ideas of ways to do it. If you explore the SETI site thoroughly you'll get the idea.

The goal is for this to be something the community can enjoy together and just have plain old fashioned fun with while helping the SETI project and enjoying the side effects a team effort can create!
